100 km/h speed limit regulation for car trailers
Find out whether your trailer is equipped for a speed of 100 kph
Notices on the purchase of a new trailer that should be driven at a speed of up to 100 kph.
Fundamentally the speed limit applies in Germany of 80 km/h for trailer combinations (car + trailer). Thanks to an exemption ruling (9th AusnVO) there is the possibility of allowing trailers to travel at speeds of up to 100 kph, and on motorways and main roads if the legal conditions are met for this.
What type of trailer do you have?
Unbraked: The trailer does not have its own brake. The necessary braking performance must be solely assumed by the towing vehicle.
Braked: The trailer has its own overrun brakes and thus reduces the burden on the towing vehicle.
Does your trailer have an EC Certificate of Conformity?
All the unbraked trailers with an EU Certificate of Conformity where its approvals in Field 0.10 begins with "e1*2007/46..." can be approved for a speed of 100 kph.
